Ever wondered what it takes to be an entrepreneur?

The professional and personal challenges, the high and lows, the failures and the success?

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1800 past events in 120 countries around the world in 2014.

The non-profit organization is headquartered in Seattle, Washington but Startup Weekend organizers and facilitators can be found in over 200 cities around the world. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe are coming together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.

Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a cofounder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups. Divon Lan

Product Manager - Next Wave Emerging Markets at Google

At Google, Divon focuses on contributing to the growth of Internet usage in developing countries. For the past two years, he is focused on smaller developing countries globally (including Cambodia), and for the four years prior to that, he focused on African countries.
Prior to Google, Divon was the founder and CEO of a technology startup in the Storage Networking space, with an engineering team in Israel and a business team in Silicon Valley.
Divon holds an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania - Wharton and a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the Technion Israel institute of technology.

Trent Eddy

Director - Emerging Markets Investments

Trent Eddy is a Founding Partner and Chairman of Emerging Markets Group Holding (EMGH). He currently focuses his energies on the group's investment business, Emerging Markets Investments, particularly on new investment opportunities, and portfolio company support. Trent is a Board Member of Planet Online, a Lao ISP, and of the Park Cafe casual dining chain in Cambodia.
Aside from EMI and EMGH, Trent also co-founded the group's first operating business, Emerging Markets Consulting, which applies the classic business strategy consulting model to both development and investor clients in the Mekong region. At EMC, Trent was focused on business development and guiding client engagements, whilst developing the strategy for the consulting business and the wider group to grow throughout the region.
Trent moved to Cambodia and launched his first consulting business in Phnom Penh in 2000, having previously been a consultant at Bain & Company in Australia, South Africa and the United Kingdom.
Trent holds an MA in Economics from Cambridge University and a MSc in Econometrics & Mathematical Economics from the London School of Economics. He is an Australian citizen.

Chris Brown

Founder and CEO - MangoMap

Software developer, entrepreneur and general geek, Chris is a vocal and omnipresent figure in Cambodia’s burgeoning hacker community. Chris has founded or partnered in several software startups which are proud to have built their products in Cambodia and sold them globally. Chris is an active member of the Barcamp movement, attending and speaking at events across the region and is also a founding member of the up and coming Phnom Penh HackerSpace.

Stephen Paterson

Coordinator of Mekong Business Challenge

Stephen Paterson is the Coordinator of the Mekong Business Challenge which is an entrepreneurship program and competition involving universities from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and Yunnan Province, China. The Mekong Challenge is conducted in partnership with the international consulting firm McKinsey & Company.
Stephen has been involved in entrepreneurship education in Cambodia for the past 18 years, and has also served as an entrepreneurship training consultant within the ASEAN region. He currently serves as Advisor and Program Coordinator for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at the National University of Management in Phnom Penh, in addition to teaching several courses on entrepreneurship and new venture creation.
Stephen is a Canadian citizen and received his Master’s Degree from the University of Toronto, and his Bachelor’s Degree from Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

Sopheak Chheang

Managing Director - Asia Master

Sopheak found Asia Master Co., Ltd in July 2009, the pioneer call centre of its kind in Cambodia. The company become the leading call centre in Cambodia, partnered with leading mobile operators such as Metfone and Smart as well as many other entertainment production in Cambodia.
Sopheak has been leading his life very courageously from a rural background in Siem Reap to work in Cambodia before he become entrepreneur himself.

David Clicquennoi

Managing Director - Golden Gekko

Dave is currently Managing Director for Golden Gekko's main engineering site of
nearly 100 staff in Phnom Penh, including mobile software developers, PM's, UI/UX designers, and testers. Before that, he started his own quantitative DIY global macro hedge fund called Microhedge. He has been Technology Director at Google.org's Instedd using technology for public health, and CTO at Digital Divide Data, in which he led technology teams in the effort to alleviate poverty through technology social enterprise. Prior to that, he worked as a software engineer at Dolby Laboratories and a chip designer at Intel Corporation's main research facility. He has a MS degree in computer hardware, is a US citizen, and has lived with his family in Phnom Penh for 7+ years.

Ear Uy (Louis)

Co-Founder and Game Producer - Asva game

Ear Uy Graduated MBA from Panasastra University of Cambodia major in International Business, and a computer and video game enthusiast. He has been a game player since he was small and has been in love with the idea of creating his own game ever since. Only until iPhone and App Store showed up, that his dream of creating his own game become more and more clear. And in November 2011, he moved from his other business to start and work full time in Osja Studio without any knowledge on how to develop a game. But equipped his knowledge with computer, he has formed a team and learning everything from scratch. And it has paid off a big deal that Osja Studio now has created 3 mobile games within one and a half year. “Nothing can’t be learnt if you put your heart into it”, that’s his theory in life.

Jesse Orndorff

Owner - Bearded Design

Jesse Orndorff is a UI & UX designer from Seattle, Washington. Jesse has had the privilege of working with some of the largest companies in the world including: Toyota, Hyundai, Volkswagen, and Google. His work has been featured in the New York Times, AOL, CNN, Yahoo! and the Wall Street Journal.
Jesse is also the founder of Glean, a design and development studio focused on developing online platforms for large businesses and NGOs. He is also the designer and developer of Taste Phnom, an iOS app for discovering restaurants in Phnom Penh.

Dave Wilkie

Founder - Chibi

David Wilkie is an entrepreneur originally from Melbourne, Australia but has been in SE Asia since 2009. Now he's finally married and settled down in Phnom Penh, he runs a Mobile Dating and Matchmaking Service called Chibi which began after winning the first Startup Weekend in Cambodia back in 2011. In his free time he likes speaking Khmer and annoying his wife.

Adrienne Ravez

Co-Founder - Endorphine Concept Digital Solutions

Adrienne Ravez is a french entrepreneur, co-founder of Endorphine Concept France, and of E. C. Digital Solutions, a social media and digital agency based in Phnom Penh. She also co-founded the Geeks in Cambodia project, an online resource focused on new technologies and Startups in Cambodia. Consultant on cross cultural communication and management, she has been involved with non profit organizations for more than 10 years, and has collaborated with institutions such as French Ministry of Justice and the International Red Cross.

Mike Gaertner

COO at Sabay Digital

Mike is a Network Manager, Network Architect, Application Developer and Project Manager with broad experience in IP centric networks and web based client/server applications. Interested in designing and implementing networks and networked applications in a challenging environments in emerging markets around the world.
Mike is currently working as COO at Sabay Digital. He is in charge of daily operations, including Network Management, Technical Support, Game Support, Game Planning and Development.

Albert Lee

VP - MekongNet

Albert's been in the telecom and internet industry for about 20 years, with work in speech recognition, VOIP, and eCommerce. Originally from Canada, he has been in Asia for the past decade, working in Singapore, China, Indonesia, and now, Cambodia. He has a degree in Engineering Science and an MBA from the University of Toronto. Albert is currently working at MekongNet, managing various services and websites.

Miho Jon

Director - KOTRA

Currently the Country Director for KOTRA's Phnom Penh office, Mr. Jon is also a Project Team Leader for KOTRA's (Government Agency under the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy of Korea) Global Partnering Team, and has been involved with the agency for 20+ years working with Korean SMEs and global companies. Mr. Jon has worked with numerous projects within the agency including Start-up programs in Korea collaborating with Microsoft, Amazon, and Google, Korea.
Mr. Jon holds an MBA from the University of Helsinki, Economics, B.S from Seoul National University, and is currently enrolled in receiving his Ph.D in Management of Technology from KunKook University.

Pily Wong

CEO of Hung Hiep

Pily Wong was raised in France, where he studied Information Technology then International Trade and Chinese at the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations in Paris. Pily is president of the Information and Communication Technology Business Association of Cambodia and French Cambodian Chamber of Commerce. Pily is also Country Manager at Microsoft MDP Cambodia and CEO of Hung Hiep (Cambodia) Co Ltd, distributor in Cambodia of German-made luxury brand Mercedes-Benz.
